Feeling incredibly lucky today! Reached another new first for my Etsy shop… one of my items was featured on the front page of Etsy this morning!!! And even better, it was in a treasury celebrating Canadian talent alongside several other local Alberta teamies! Do you see it there, in the second row… one of my cozy cowl scarves? Oh, doing a happy dance in my sewing room still (or as much of a happy dance as I can manage these days… more of a waddle or sway)! Thanks so much, Darcy, for including me in this treasury!

Double treasury love happening today and both feature purple cowls by little ‘ol me. Thanks so much for the include ladies!
Colourful, cozy necks
Ta-da! Introducing the newest scarflette gals! Or rather the newest cowl scarves. Yes, indeed, I have changed the name a bit on these in the hopes of improving searchability and such. Scarflettes just isn’t as common as “cowl” or “scarves” and so I have relinquished my oh-so-loved cute product name for something slightly more descriptive.
These newest additions are made from a yarn combo that I started using in August and now currently have a rainbow of them completed. I’m a big fan of double stranded cowls and these ones are made from two different yarn types (in the past I just doubled up on a single type of yarn). One strand is made from a wool mohair blend called Alfa by SandnesGarn, while the second strand of yarn is made from Colinette Isis. Both of which comes from the oh-so-handy stock of yarns from my mother-in-law’s shop (which now lives in our basement). I really love the weight of the Alfa wool. It’s perfect for my cowls, but by itself, it can be a bit itchy. So I experimented with ways to soften it up and discovered that pairing it with the Isis yarn made it buttery soft. And the colours! Oh, the colour combos come out so beautiful! Seriously, who can resist variegated yarns? Each cowl can be worn with so many different colours!
These gals will be for sale at all my upcoming craft shows. There is literally a rainbow of them, although, some are one-of-a-kind colour combos, so if you see one you like, don’t wait to long to buy it. I’ve started listing them in the shop too, a new one each day. If you live locally (in Calgary), you can avoid the shipping cost listed on Etsy, just contact me and I will drop your purchase off directly to you. Pretty sweet deal!
And so it begins
My first craft fair of the season is this weekend! I can’t believe it’s already here! My hands have been busy working away on crocheting scarves, but little time has been spent on sewing up more coin purselettes or working on the other seasonal products I had in mind. Gotta go back to the “Keep it Simple” rule for now. This week I need to get all the new scarves tagged, stamp shopping bags, figure out a lovely seasonal display, etc… you know, all those other things that are key to the craft show experience.
There is one new item that I’m excited about… scarflettes for kids (and possibly babelettes). I revamped my scarflette design to keep all those small necks cozy this winter. I haven’t tried it out on a baby/toddler though, so I’m not sure if I still need to come up with a third size that is slightly smaller. None the less, excited to be able to offer this new product!
If you are keen to start your Christmas shopping early or just want to come check out some great local arts & crafts, come by the Bowness Christmas/Fall Craft Fair this Saturday, October 22nd. The show runs from 9am-4pm in the Main Hall of the Bowness Sportsplex. I’m really excited about this show because I grew up in Bowness and my parents still live there. Plus my hubby lived in Bowness for a number of years too (his dad even owned the Bowness Hotel for a while). We’re truly Bownesians at heart! It will be awesome to support this local show! Oh yes, and did I mention that my crafty buddy Kalen of minibytes will also be in attendance, as well as a couple other fellow Etsy team members? Should be a fun day!
PS – If you haven’t already noticed, I added an Events page on the site if you’re interested in seeing the various shows I’ve got lined up. I’ll keep posting about them here too, but if you’re a die hard craft show shopper, you can come up with a schedule for the whole season and never have to step foot in the mall.
One down, one to go
The March Market Collective came and went so quickly. I still seem to be recovering from it and a touch of the flu. Many hours were spent in bed yesterday getting extra rest. But now I find that it is already Tuesday and the pile of things to do this week keeps growing.
The Market was a lot of fun. Some especially great musicians performed on Sunday! I had lots of wonderful help from family and friends. The table looked great (I think) and it was fun to display and sell Nicole’s jewelry. The down-side… the weather, and subsequently, the roads, in Calgary was really crappy on the weekend, especially on Saturday, which is usually the busy day at the Market. It seemed to keep a lot of people at home. Which I can completely understand. It was one of those weekends, where, if you don’t have to go out, then don’t go out.
Sadly, this meant a quieter Market. I only sold a few items, which is disappointing. I did, however, get plenty of wonderful compliments on my new purses, which was good to hear after spending the past few weeks pulling those together. Oh well. I totally expect to have some good craft shows and not so good ones too. The Market itself was super great, as per usual with Market Collective. Just can’t control the effect the weather will have on attendance. It does, however, make me a but anxious about the upcoming Make It show. Not in terms of weather, but in terms of how my items will be received there. There is always that nagging bit in my brain that wonders if my stuff is “hip” enough. And of course there is always the fine balance of what it costs to make an item and what people will readily pay for an item. Lots to consider, as usual.
Thanks so much to all the folks who did manage to attend Market Collective! Such brave & determined shoppers!

Thanks to the gals of StagnantGypsy for including one of my fav scarflettes! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday! Mine has included baking brownies, submitting EI applications, getting custom orders for handmade baby gifts, and an order for three custom-sized purselettes AND the sun is out with clear blue skies. Great day so far.

Adventures in scarflette-land
After a brief break from scarflette-making during Christmas (during which I was absorbed in other crafting), I dove back into it. I’ve actually had some custom requests lately from friends and family, which is very exciting! Thanks to everyone for your continued support!
You may remember that a couple months ago I ordered a whole bunch of new yarns from my mother-in-law. I sadly neglected to share the excitement with you when the big box arrived. In fact, it came the same weekend as the Market Collective sale, so it was quite a busy time. It took so much personal restraint to keep from diving into the yarn while I tried to focus on Christmas gift making. As soon as that was all done with, I eagerly grabbed skeins of new wool and started crocheting. It has been pure pleasure working with these delicious yarns, especially the MeriTwist hand painted merino wool by Punta Yarns. The colours are just so rich and lovely! A few of the completed ones are listed in my shop, one is traveling on its way to its new owner, and another is waiting for confirmation about its new home. Glad I have ten skeins of each colour!
Counting up…
… and counting down. After spending so many evenings and weekends crafting away, I decided it was probably a good idea to take a quick inventory of completed items. Not only that, but I needed to take a conscious moment to celebrate my progress. Maybe that sounds odd, but it’s definitely one thing that I have taken away from all the “career learning” that I’ve participated in over the past year; the importance of building regular opportunities to celebrate your accomplishments. How can you feel really satisfied with what you’ve done, if you don’t allow yourself a moment to look back and take stock? It seems like the simplest way to build up some positivity and keep yourself from getting bogged down by the “should have” thoughts. Look at what you’ve actually done, how far you’ve come!
With that in mind I take stock, not to brag, but to celebrate and be accountable to myself and those who support me in all I do:
- Started blog and post regularly on it
- Obtained an official NUANS corporate name report (required for incorporating in Canada)
- Registered for my first craft show
- Created an Etsy account
- Completed 27 scarflettes, 10 more in progress
- Completed 10 coin purses, 12 more in progress
- Started taking photos of everything I do and make
- Ordered and received shopping bags and tissue paper (more on this to come)
- Ordered a pile of yarn wholesale
- Purchased all the supplies to make labels for my scarflettes
- Found a Canadian company to get stickers printed
- Researched online, read books, talked to other crafters, checked out community craft sales, and spent a great deal of time visualizing (not just daydreaming)
- Lastly, but not leastly, I prayed and continue to pray that the direction I am going is the one He would have me go
Thank you for reading this blog! You support my endeavours by doing so! Afterall, I don’t craft purely for my own enjoyment, but with the hope that others will enjoy it too.
Perhaps you have a moment to take stock of what you’ve personally accomplished (in what ever you do) or how far you’ve come in a project. You’re welcome to post about it in the comments or share a link to your own blog. It’s always a treat to hear about the progress and success of others!
